Yikonglu is a channel that reads the Chinese classics word by word, chapter by chapter, using narrated animation and a small cast of recurring characters to bring one line of the text down to a real person in a real situation. It assumes you have not read the book and have not seen the earlier episodes.
What this site is for
The videos on the platforms are for everyone; this site is for people who want to check. Every line Yikonglu has read aloud can be looked up here: the source text, its page in the base edition, the commentators' own words, the pronunciation, our reading; and whatever we got wrong is recorded on the errata page.
Our commitments
- Source text and commentary are taken from woodblock editions, and each page names its base edition.
- We give the commentators' reading before our own; our own view is labelled as Yikonglu's reading and never passed off as an ancient one.
- Nothing without a traceable source is posted. Tell us about any error; corrections are public.
