“言人不能出不由户，何故乃不由此道邪？怪而叹之之辞” — no one can go out except by the door, so why do people not follow this Way? Words of wonder and lament.

Hong: “人知出必由户，而不知行必由道。非道远人，人自远尔” — people know that going out must be by the door, but not that conduct must follow the Way. It is not that the Way is far from people; people distance themselves from it.
读How Yikonglu reads it
Everyone knows to leave by the door rather than climb the wall; the right road in life lies right in front of us, yet people will not take it. It is not that the Way is far from them; they have wandered away themselves.
