“从政，谓为大夫” — “to take part in government” means serving as a grandee; “果，有决断。达，通事理。艺，多才能” — “guo” is decisiveness; “da” is understanding how things work; “yi” is having many skills.

Master Cheng: “季康子问三子之才可以从政乎？夫子答以各有所长。非惟三子，人各有所长，能取其长，皆可用也” — Ji Kangzi asked whether the talents of the three could serve in government; the Master answered that each had his strength. Not only these three: everyone has a strength, and if one can take it, all can be employed.
读How Yikonglu reads it
Zilu is decisive, Zigong perceptive, Ran Qiu many-skilled: each has one strength and so can be employed. Using people means taking what they are good at.
